Upcoming Events 2nd Annual Literacy Pros Awards Luncheon In honor of National Literacy Month, Literacy Pros will awards its Literacy Volunteer of the Year award to Nancy Laughter of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Friday, September 26 through Sunday, September 28, 2008 from 9 am to 11 pm, Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of every sale made with a special Bookfair voucher to Literacy Pros of Jacksonville. Support Literacy Pros of Jacksonville by shopping at Barnes & Noble in Jacksonville, FL. In an effort to raise funds for delivering literacy training and promoting the cause of adult literacy in our community, Literacy Pros of Jacksonville is working together with Barnes & Noble Booksellers by hosting a Bookfair at the Mandarin Shopping Village store. Literacy Pros will hold events at the Barnes and Noble store in Mandarin Shopping Village, 11112 San Jose Blvd. in Jacksonville. Events are scheduled as follows: Friday, September 26, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. "Words Afire" an Open Mic Poetry event hosted by local author and poet Dorothy K. Fletcher (Zen Fishing and Other Southern Pleasures) Saturday, September 27, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. "Children's Story Hour" hosted by Literacy Pros of Jacksonville Sunday, September 28, 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. "Musical Story Time" with the JSYO and Jacksonville Suzuki Strings under the direction of Rocco DiGeorgio
Past Events Ride A Wave to
Literacy Pros of Jacksonville is dedicated to promoting the cause of adult literacy in our community. We also want to encourage reading aloud to children; help adults learn how to read with their kids; and emphasize the importance of reading with, to and in front of children. This event will give us the opportunity to reach out to the community and educate a new audience about the problem of adult literacy. By tying in to the "Surfs Up" phenomenon, which is something parents will experience with their children, we have a unique chance to participate in a fun and educational event to further the cause of making life long readers in our community. Come out and enjoy the fun at Regal Cinemas - Avenues 20, located at 9525 S. Phillips Highway, Jacksonville, FL 32256 On Saturday, June 9th, 2007 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Literacy Pros events and programs will be held at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, June 16 from 4 pm to 8 pm. These events include a book signing with local authors Dorothy K. Fletcher (Zen Fishing and Other Southern Pleasures) and Vic DiGenti (Windrusher) from 4 to 6 pm. From 7 to 8 pm, enjoy the musical stylings of Damien Lamar and Laurel Lee of Laurel Lee and the Escapees. |
